good stuff

George Mason University

how freaking awesome would it be, if everyone had the ability to read minds?  and look into the future?  then there would be no need for lies, no need for deception, no need for standardized tests, no need for anti-cheating precautions, no need for any of the regulations we have nowadays.  there would be no need for rejection.  and everything would be so much better...so much more positive.  instead of rejections, you have only acceptances...because you immediately know where you would be rejected so would avoid those.

if everyone were psychic, there would be no doubt, no anxiety, no stress.  no such thing as leaving someone hanging, or staying up for 4 hours waiting for someone to never call.

there would be no more accidents, or murders, or stealing, or cons.

a perfect little world... with no progress whatsoever, because nothing in life would be uncertain.  there would no longer be any point in living your life, or doing well in school, or working hard at life, because you would apply to a top tier college, for example,  shaking with anxiety and frustration all the way until the letters arrive in a small unadorned envelopes...letters of rejection.  or of acceptance.  or of neither, leaving the receiver to hang in limbo; interviews for jobs or schools would vanish as all ulterior motives would become apparent.  society, instead of an environment that promotes good behavior, would turn into one that punishes faults.  what a dismal, pessimistic society that would be.

gambling would all but disappear as the winners were already predetermined: bluffing would be obsolete.  and all life is a gamble: we open our eyes, we live, we die.  death has a 100% probability of occurring; everyday we gamble our lives, hoping that the odds are with us that we would not die today.

eh.  for all of life's faults i guess it really is better this way.

so erick liang was in the new york times yesterday:

"...One Chinese-American contributor seems to have discovered a reservoir of humor that he and others might draw on for years to come. This is "Crazy Asian Mother," which has the subtitle, "how asian parents really act when childrens get B+." The spelling error seems to be deliberate. The sketch is amateurish, but it comes together. The comments are almost all amens: "It's soooo true," "reminds me of my own mother," and so on."
